Deciding to get pregnant and have a child is an exciting and rewarding experience, although some couples struggle to get pregnant. We often hear the following question: how can I know what days are best to get pregnant? How do I know I am on my fertile days? In short, the answer is, generally speaking by the time when ovulation occurs, but how can you tell you are ovulating? Here are a few tips that will help you know with more precision:
Counting days to determine most fertile day.
- Ovulation tends to happen about 14 days before your next menstrual period begins. If your menstrual cycle is regular and is of 28-days, day 14 would be your most fertile day starting your count on the first day that your last period began. If your cycle is a 30-days one, your most fertile day would be on day 16.
Cervical Mucus to know if you are ovulating
Your cervical mucus changes in appearance and consistency as a result of ovulation. If you check yourself each day, you may be able to tell you are ovulating when you observe an egg-white-like vaginal discharge.
A basal thermometer can be used to chart the your body temperature right after waking up. A slight increase in temperature (about a tenth of a degree or so) tends to indicate when you are ovulating.
Ovulation prediction kit
This kits detect the increase in luteinizing hormone that occurs 24-48 hours before ovulation. The kits are inexpensive and have proven to be very accurate. Clearblue offers a good ovulation test that you may want to try out.
