Superfoods for a great pregnancy

Being pregnant is a wonderful experience. While you may enjoy your pregnancy, it may be exhausting for your body. One way to help, is by nourishing it with the right foods to be energized, strong and sharp to welcome your beautiful baby. Some people like to call them superfoods. Here we present you a list of foods that are a good idea to ingest.

Superfood #1: Beans and legumes

They are good sources of protein, calcium, fiber, niacin, thiamine, and iron. You may make a big batch of beans and freeze them. Avoid buying any of this in their canned version as they are loaded with sodium and their nutritional value is lower as they are processed foods. If you are particularly interested in protein, go for soybeans.

Superfood #2: Whole grains

Whole grains are a good source of minerals, protein, fiber and B complex vitamins. Go for the least processed grains as many of the commercially prepared have their nutritional value affected. Some examples are brown rice, quinoa, millet and oats.

Superfood #3: Dark leafy vegetables

They supply vitamins such as A and C, minerals, calcium, iron. They also provide phytochemicals like beta carotene and lutein that protect against cancer. All these help promote also a good milk supply. Some examples of this superfoods are watercress, kale, spinach, collard greens, broccoli, brussel sprouts and cabbage.

Superfood #4: Nuts and seeds

A good source of fiber, protein, essential fatty acids, and minerals are nuts and seeds. Add flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, walnuts and almonds in order to get your omega-3 fatty acids that play an important role in your baby’s brain development. You may eat these raw or toasted. You may also mix them in your salads to make them taste better.

Superfood #5: Water
